Rome -
Sofia Coppola, daughter of famed director Francis Ford Coppola, was married last Sunday in Basilicata.
The groom was Thomas Mars, lead singer of the French rock band Phoenix. Mars is the father of the couple's two young daughters.
The ceremony took place in the garden of an historic palazzo in the ancient town of Bernalda. It is located in Italy's Basilicata region - in the arch of boot-shaped Italy. The town was home to the elder Coppola's grandfather, Agostino, prior to his emigration to the United States.
The town of Bernalda is near the UNESCO-recognized settlement of Matera, popular with tourists because of "I Sassi". Francis Ford plans to turn the palazzo into a luxury boutique hotel.
