Jean Maragioglio Mourned

E-mail Print PDF

More than thirty Lodge sisters and brothers attended services for Jean Maragioglio, our Mistress of Ceremonies, in Patchogue on Thursday evening.

Jean was an OSIA member for three decades and one of the longest term members of Sgt. John Basilone Lodge.  Not long after being installed for her second term as Mistress of Ceremonies this Spring, Jean suffered a stroke and was hospitalized at Brookhaven Memorial Hospital.  She gradually improved to the point where she could be transferred to a local rehabilitation facility for further treatment.

Although showing slight signs of improvement over recent weeks, Jean suffered another more severe stroke and passed away on July 27.  Her wake was held at Patchogue Funeral Home on Thursday, July 29th, where an OSIA Departed Member ceremony was held in her honor.  Her remains were cremated following a Mass at Saint Joseph the Worker Church on Friday.

Although one of our Lodge's oldest members, Jean had been one of the most active as well.  Rarely, if ever, missing a meeting or parade, Jean was always the first one to volunteer to carry our banner - which she did with pride.  Jean also was always there at our fundraisers, be it serving hot dogs at our Chinese Auctions or helping customers at our Yard Sales.

Sister Jean Maragioglio was a key  and valued member of the Sgt.John Basilone Lodge, deserving of much credit in the success of our endeavors.  She will truly be missed.
